New Owners, Grant & Claudia Lues share their story

Greetings – saluti !

Having returned from almost a year of travelling abroad that took them from Israel to Italy, Grant , Claudia and their two sons Guilio and Joshua returned to New Zealand in September 2009, to settle in Tauranga. Prior to their overseas adventures, the Lues family lived in Ashburton where they had settled upon immigrating from Zimbabwe.

It was whilst living in Florence that they dreamed about a way of bringing back some of Italy’s romance and culture to New Zealand. They believed it was by divine intervention that they were led to Bel Mondo and more importantly that it was on the market at the time.

In Jan 2010 Grant and Claudia took on the challenge of adopting Rocco and Joanne’s 10 year old legacy. Due to their strong heritage, they embraced the beautiful culinary world of Bel Mondo with enthusiasm and a sense of homecoming. However, nothing could have prepared them for the enormity of the task ahead. Simply learning where to locate the 3000 products both in the store and from the 200 suppliers was hard enough, let alone acquiring the knowledge to sell them with confidence. Their task was made significantly easier because of Rocco and Joanne’s meticulous and painstaking care to source the highest quality products both from New Zealand and abroad.

Now - March 2011 - the aim is to continue building upon this solid foundation to provide the Bay of Plenty and beyond with the finest, authentic mediterranean and local products.

With their enthusiastic team of Rachel, Grace, Josh, and Luisa on hand to help you, Grant and Claudia invite you to shop at Bel Mondo either via the updated website or in the iconic shop in Tauranga.

Canterbury Thoughts

With their New Zealand roots originating in Ashburton, Grant and Claudia are saddened by the devastation of the recent Christchurch earthquake. Their family and friends are safe with many doing what they can to help like the New Life Church in Ashburton who are looking after 200 refugees.
All of the Bel Mondo staff send their love and support to Canterbury and will be supporting the Red Cross Earthquake Appeal.

2011 Tauranga Multicultural Festival

Bel Mondo will be waving the Italian Flag at the 2011 Tauranga Multicultural Festival

Saturday 19 March Historic Village, 17th Ave. Tauranga.

Gates open 10.00am Entry tickets $5 Children under 12 free. Tickets sold at gate only

Look for Bel Mondo and local chef Luciano Sorrentino who will be serving their famous pizzas in the Latin Quarter at the Festival.
